Regulation

Regulation is the adjustment of the mechanical parts in the piano so that it will function quietly and efficiently allowing the pianist a wide range of expression.

The piano has multiple parts that work in coordination with each other to create music.  The many levers and hinges are designed to allow the musician to play without having to think about all that occurs between the keys and the strings.

Normal use, climate changes, and the amount the piano is used can make the many felts, buckskins, springs and other parts compress or wear out causing the piano touch to feel uneven, become noisy or, in extreme cases, stop working.

The more advanced the music being played, the more important good regulation becomes.  Whether or not your piano is in need of regulation service can be determined when the technician is there to render service for your instrument.
